The Center Viking Youth Club Needs You

The Center Viking Youth Club operates 5 days a week, 11 months a year. We provide programming for students kindergarten through 12th grade. All enrichment and field trips focus on these four themes: 1. Leadership & Adventure, 2. Art/Theater & Creativity, and 3. Coding, Rocketry & Drones, and 4. Outdoor Science activities were all successfully completed. Through capstone projects and individual career and academic planning students also focus on financial literacy and college and workforce readiness. STARS - Students Teaching About Relationship Success focuses on positive relationships and peer to peer mentoring for 5th-12th grade students.

Project-based learning takes place daily through STEM activities like building and coding robots, gardening, cooking, and taking field trips. Programming also focuses on Life Skills Development and Service Learning. Tutors work with students on homework and improving skills in math, language, literacy, reading, science, social studies, art, and music.

We utilize Restorative Practices for community building as we work with students to overcome behavior issues that arise. Parents are invited to participate in their students' learning and success by providing input into the kinds of activities and experiences they wanted their students to have while in out-of-school time care.

Students participated in Triple Play and Positive Action where they focused on social and emotional learning and increasing healthy habits for their mind and body by exercising and eating healthy. These are done through planned activities where the students get to move their bodies in student-led games and snacks. Students also learn life skills like preparing nutritious foods they can also make at home. Each week students also participated in bicycle and skateboard riding and learned safety measures to do so.

Field trips are another impactful aspect of CVYC membership. This year field trips were taken to go swimming and take lessons, attend a Colorado Rockies baseball game, visit the CSU Spur Center in Denver, ride a locomotive on the Cumbres and Toltec railway, go to the movie theater, bowling, fishing, roller skating, participate in a theater workshop at Creede Repertory Theatre. Students are provided opportunities to get to know their home by visiting the Great Sand Dunes National Park, Zapata Falls, hikes, movie theaters, bowling, local museums, events at Adams State University and so much more.  Activities were not only fun, but also implemented academic learning by including reading, writing, math, science, and problem solving.

The Center Viking Youth Club provides community outreach events throughout the year to provide wholesome, engaging, and cultural opportunities for youth and families in our community.

At the Center Viking Youth Club we are invested in the whole child.

Thanks,

CVYC Staff
